Las Anod, Somaliland, December 1, 2007 (SL Times) – More than fifty Puntland military soldiers defected to Somaliland on Thursday and were taken to an area close to Las Anod airport for debriefing by Somaliland military officers stationed at Las Anod.

According to high ranking officials in the Somaliland military, all the soldiers who defected are from the Sool region and were part of Puntland’s defense forces stationed around the Tukaraq district in Sool region, 40km south of Las Anod.

Speaking to the SL Times on the phone, Somaliland military officers confirmed that these soldiers will be recruited by the Somaliland army as soon as possible.

It’s the second time this month that Puntland defense personnel defected to Somaliland, the last time was November 16, when three high ranking Puntland officials and fifty-odd soldiers defected to Somaliland
