Tukaraq, 24 November 2007 – Somaliland security forces reach the border village town of Tukaraq 40 km from LasAnod on the road to Garowe without any resistance. “Somaliland forces and high government delegation were given warm welcome on their arrival,” this was stated in its dispatch by our correspondent in Sool.

Government delegation leader and minister of public works, Mr. Saed Sulub addressing a gathering of community leaders and a large crowd said; “The people and government of Somaliland respect and give importance to the people of Sool. We work for the development and welfare of our people. We plan to build all basic infrastructure but we call the people to cooperate and give us hand in realizing this goal.”

Minister of Posts and Tellecommunication, Mr. Liban Du’ale Asayr, said; “As a member of the community itself, I urge the people here to contribute towards sustaining the security and stability they are enjoying.”

Minister of Information, Mr. Ahmed Hadji Dahir, in a press release, said; “Our forces reached the border peacefully and without any resistance. The community in the area has given our forces full support and cooperation to reach the border.”

The minister of Information emphasized that the people of Tukaraq and Gambadhe chose peace instead of confrontation and war.

In LasAnod the third batch of Police from former Puntland force were recruited and join Somaliland police in LasAnod.

Our regional correspondent, Abdiqani Hassan GArash added that food aid from the government of Somaliland has been distributed to the neediest people in LasAnod.
