Hargeysa, Somaliland, November 24, 2007 (SL Times) – A major two day peace-building conference attended by Muslim and Christian religious leaders from East African countries took place in Hargeysa from 17 - 19 November 2007 at the International Horn University (IHU), Center for Community Development and Research.

The two day conference was hosted by IHU and funded by ACRL-Religions for Peace, the working group of the Religious Leaders Peace Initiative on the Horn, which brings together Muslim and Christian religious leaders to bring about conflict resolution progress and peace-building development issues in the East African region. Delegates taking part in the two day Hargeysa meeting came from Somaliland, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Sudan.

Religious leaders from Somaliland and Somalia taking part in the two day conference concluded with a declaration to finding ways in which the Somali religious leaders can contribute to resolving conflicts among the Somalis and take a greater role in peace-building initiatives among the Somali people.

At the end of the two day conference, President Dahir Rayale Kahin held a reception for the delegates from the peace and solidarity mission of religious Muslim and Christian leaders coming from Somaliland, Somalia, Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya.
