Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 2, 2008 (The Rep) - Acting Chairman of the opposition Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) Mr. Adam Mohamed Mireh (Waqaf) condemned the omission of SNM struggle from the curriculum and called for thorough investigation.

He said, “Party supports investigation, for the freedom and sovereignty we enjoy and relish are the results of the struggle. Our party supports that legal steps be taken against anyone behind the omission, anyone who backed it and anyone who opposes the fruits attained, by the SNM struggle.”

The Acting Chairman of UCID what he described as a process of obliteration of the armed struggle?

He said, “We perceive that this in a crime which is committed by the government. One should not forget that the Republic of Somaliland is the result of popular uprising to have a separate sovereign state. An uprising spearheaded by the SNM struggle.

Mr. Adam Mohamed Mireh (Waqaf) criticized those who communities the struggle as avid mongers with unhealthy mind, who are trying to confuse the people he said, “This is to discredit the struggle. Our party envisages that inclusion of the history of the struggle in the curriculum is imperative and will help future generations to be proud of the struggle for reclamation of our independence.”

The Acting Chairman added that if his party wins the next election, that the history of the armed struggle of SNM will not only be included in school textbooks, but will be made available for the public.
