Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 23, 2008 – The president of the republic of Somaliland, Dahir Riyale Kahin, and a delegation he is leading departed from the country's capital, Hargeysa on Sunday, for a trip to Ethiopia. Before flying from the airport, the president addressed the media at the presidency. He spoke about the terrorist act in which the head of Germany Agro, Daniel Bronkel, was abducted in Ruqay locality, which is situated between Erigavo town and Maydh District [in Sanaag Region]. The president said that the act was organized in Hugur in Boosaaso [in Puntland regional administration].

Speaking about the matter, the president said: “I would like to comment on this issue of terrorist that occurred in our country and which was a successful [in freeing the abducted German]. First, I would like to congratulate the national army and the locals of the region in dealing with the matter bravely. Preliminary reports say that the matter [kidnapping of the German] was organized in a place called Hugur of the Boosaaso administration. Terrorist have no lineage, however, their lineage is terrorism.

They are everywhere. And there are some of our people who are part of terrorists. I urge the public to be vigilant and watchful. I can remember when I was in Addis Ababa on my way to the United Kingdom in 2004, the British [war] cemetery [in Somaliland] was destroyed, and it was the day I was at UK parliament, that GTZ group [staff] was abducted. And yesterday, international officials visited us [ Somaliland]. This proves that whenever anything good is coming on our way, some terrorist who are against our interest, and whom we don't know the people they work for, are within our people. I'm telling the public to be vigilant of such people and pay special attention [to such people].”

The president's was accompanied by the minister of foreign affairs, Abdillahi Muhammad Du'ale, the minister of the office of the president, Nur Amin Isma'il and the minister of public works, Said Sulub Muhammad, in his trip.
