Somaliland and Ethiopian military cooperation

Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 1, 2008 (SL Times) – A high level Ethiopian military delegation arrived in Somaliland on Monday, Feb.25, and held talks with Somaliland’s military officials. The talks focused on cooperation between the two countries in a variety of areas, particularly in preventing and combating extremist groups from infiltrating their borders. Local observers have described the meetings between Somaliland military officials and their Ethiopian counterparts as productive.
Somaliland and Ethiopia have maintained good relations for a number of years. The visit of the Ethiopian delegation comes on the heels of visits by American, French and Egyptian officials to Hargeisa, and amid signs of a growing list of countries that are either upgrading their relations with Somaliland or want to establish links with Somaliland.
