Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 8, 2008 (SL Times) – A new magazine was launched last week in Hargeysa by a group of Somaliland women.
The new magazine is called AMAN which means peace or safety protection in Somali.
The Magazine’s staff are all women. Interestingly however, these women learnt how to produce a magazine only two weeks before Aman’s first issue appeared.
Two Finnish women Mai Waire and Shukri Omar had taught them how to bring out their own illustrated magazine.
At the Imperial Hotel last Monday, the trainers and the trainees gave a demonstration of how the project has worked.
The recipients of the training belonged to the Nasib Project which provides vocational skills training to women.
The function was attended by the chairman of the Somali language daily Saxansaxo, Abdillahi Mohamed Dahir (Cukuse).
Aman focuses on health and social issues that affect mothers, children and the youth.
