Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 12, 2008 (SL Times) – Muhubo Saleban Farah the wife of Somaliland's most famous political prisoner Abshir Hassan Hashi pleaded with the country's ruler Dahir Riyale to release her husband from prison where he is being kept since his arrest on May 1, 2008.
Muhubo and her four children demonstrated on Wednesday in front of the Somaliland presidency demanding that Abshir be freed immediately or taken to court.
No charges have been brought against him until now.
But the country's police commissioner Saqadhi Dubad accused Abshir of insulting the president.
The police and the secretive Intelligence Agency have both been looking for him ever since he corroborated reports published by Haatuf newspaper in 2006/2007 about corruption and embezzlement of public funds by president Riyale's wife.
Abshir is the former chauffeur of Somaliland's first lady Hudda Barkhad. He is a member of the central committee of the KULMIYE opposition party.
