The Scheduling Of Somaliland Election

By Ibrahim Hassan Gagale

What the Vice President of Somaliland, Ahmed Yusuf Yasin, said in the Udub press conference held in Hargeysa on February 8, 2009 was both shocking and appalling and amounts to treason against Somaliland independence and international recognition.  The treasonous statements of the Vice President, Ahmed Yusuf Yasin, and the suspension of Somaliland Passport by Djibouti Authority subsequently following the recent meeting held in Djibouti between Dahir Riyale and Nuur Adde clearly show a plot against Somaliland sovereignty devised in the meeting.

The Vice President alone does not have the power to disclose such troubling stand against Somaliland independence without the knowledge of President Dahir Riyale. President Dahir Riyale is believed to be pushing Ahmed Yusuf Yasin to go out publicly and speak against Somaliland independence to test the public reaction.

This is exactly what the subversive foreign policy of Riyale`s government has been since he took power and his dictatorship is indeed conspiratorial intended to end Somaliland’s independence. President Riyale was waiting for Somaliwein always and that is why he has been delaying presidential election of Somaliland for several times and trying hard now to delay it again. If he were committed to the cause of Somaliland independence, the country would be recognized by now.
The international and Somalia’s news agencies picked up immediately what the vice president said and may have negative impact on Somaliland Recognition worldwide.

Therefore, the Vice President, Ahmed Yusuf Yasin, must resign immediately or must face impeachment now for committing treason against Somaliland independence and recognition. This is a wake up to Somaliland people to rescue their independence from the treasonous government headed by Dahir Riyale. Any delay of the coming presidential election of Somaliland expected to be held on March 29, 2009 will compromise Somaliland independence. So, President Riyale should not be allowed to delay the presidential election again on which the destiny of the nation depends on. This election should be live or die situation. Long live Somaliland.
