My dear brothers and sisters of Somaliland,

The 2008 was one of the darkest in our history as we faced highest numbers of blasts and Political Crisis in last 10 years. Let's practice following 10 commandments to make Somaliland a great nation in 2009 and coming years.

Thou shall never forget- It took us 18 years to achieve freedom. We should introspect as to why it took us so long. It took us 10 years to achieve the level of Peace, economic prosperity which other countries are enjoying for 100s of years, why? We have been attacked by aggressors for thousands of years, why? Post independence if you start measuring the terror attacks that have happened in this country and put it on a calendar, your calendar will be full of "terror anniversaries". Is this the Somaliland you want to give to your next generation? We should always remember that freedom is not free and never forget the history.

Thou shall never forgive- Forgiving is sign of weakness. Powerful nations or people never forgive, they always teach a lesson to their enemies. Never forgive to those who have attacked and exploited this country. Let's teach this to our next generation so that we don't have leaders who hesitate on punishing the attackers who kill innocent citizens.

Thou shall delete the Tribalism- The rational for having Tribalism  system in the name of "division of labor" doesn't exist any more, then why we are still practicing it today? There is so much of Tribe, till the time we are divided like this; it will be exploited by our enemies against us. Though a lot of us have to carry it today lets ensure our coming generations don't have "Tribe tag" attached to them.

Thou shall always verify the intent of the guest- Always remember it's our guests who have turned out to be our enemies. And our history of 100 years speaks for that. We should teach our children's always to verify the intent of guest. Guests are welcome if they are "only guests".

Thou shall always use peace as a last resort- We have been so much influenced by the so called "freedom by non-violence' that everyone wants peaceful solution to all the problems. a Somalilander  poet and songwriter (Muse Aye) Says:- we should acknowledge his contribution and leave his methods there. It's not going to work in this century where we have bomb blast and terror attacks 29 October 2008. Always remember and teach this to your children that many times using your power that works and not peaceful methods.

Thou shall be disciplined- We are not disciplined; right from getting in to a train to a billing counter in a mall. Over a period of time we must ensure that discipline is part of life for us and our coming generation.

Thou shall always reject those who "divide & rule"- Those who create Tribe vs Tribe , Region  vs. Region , District  vs. District  kind of scenarios are against the spirit of united of Somaliland  and we should always reject them.

Thou shall always vote and vote in a way to ensure that, please exercise your right to vote and vote for the right person first and party later.  . We should keep regional parties at regional levels and always vote for a party which is working at national level and Somaliland Recognition

Thou shall always help an Somaliland- We stand against each other for small gains. Even if by getting less income or profit if you can strengthen the efforts of a Somalilander you must do that. We should always be united in our efforts.

Thou shall always protect image of Somaliland- Every country has its internal problems and we have ours too (Tribe clashes, state specific issues etc.). But for external world we should sound united. Remember our difference of opinion on strategic issues can be and has been used by our enemies to exploit us. Specifically those who are De spore and interact with foreigners on regular basis should "build a consistent image" of Somaliland. Don't just say that yes I know this happened and it was very bad or such things keep on happening in Somaliland. One should always say that we are democratic society with freedom of expression and we have a government which can resolve these issues.

Let's pray and work for a better future for our coming generation.
