Addis Ababa, March 13, 2009 (WIC) - Ethiopia is scheduled to host the 4th African International Media Summit (AIMS) in Addis Ababa from March 13-15th 2009, APA reported.

The media summit is being organized by the African Communication Agency (ACA), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC). The aim of the conference is to carry out a critical discussion about the re-branding of Africa and the portrayal of Africans in the media.

The theme of AIMS 2009 will focus on the role of African women in the media and the importance of balanced reporting in an effort to promote the impact and importance of African women in the development of Africa, according to the organizers.

ACA, which is based in Ghana, has established a partnership with Cable News Network (CNN), and became CNN International’s first Africa-based advertising representative for regional sales in Africa.

“Since its inception in 1997, ACA’s energies have been increasingly directed toward establishing partnerships and developing initiatives to help change the negative perceptions of Africa that have been perpetuated by the media, and  introduce African businesses to a global marketplace,” said the agency.

With its headquarters in Accra, Ghana and offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Nigeria, ACA has been able to establish linkages throughout Africa and Europe.

“Staying true to its mission to show "another side of Africa", ACA has been successful in expanding its operations by partnering with various groups and organizations,” said ACA in a message on its web site.
