Hargeysa, Somaliland, April 4, 2009 (SL Times) – The Speaker of Somaliland’s Parliament, Mr. Abdirahman Muhammad Abdillahi (Irro) has advised the disputing Somaliland political parties to resolve their conflict through dialogue. He also warned that further delay in the presidential election could result in great disappointment among many members in the international community who attach high importance to the election.
The speaker of parliament said this in an interview with the independent television Somaliland Space Channel.
His comments were triggered by the Upper House’s decision to extend the term of the president for six months, a decision that was rejected by the opposition.
The speaker’s concern about the presidential election is shared by many Somalilanders who are losing patience with the repeated delays in the election.
