Hargeysa, Somaliland, May 7, 2009 - The humanitarian delegation sent by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to Somaliland to treat blindness and other eye diseases continued its medical operations in the capital city of Hargeysa.
The medical camp set up by the RCA team provided free medical check-up, treatment and surgery for those who suffer from curable blindness and other visual impairments.
The RCA team also distributed food among the impoverished and needy people in Somaliland in an expression of solidarity with the fraternal country.
The medics and Para medics working day and night at chosen hospitals have successfully performed 200 surgeries so far to restore the lost eye sight of the patients, who had lost hope of seeing the light again in their lives.
The Acting Assistant Secretary General for Relief and Projects at RCA and the head of the delegation Dr. Saleh Moosa Al Thae said that over 1200 patients have benefited so far from the medical help extended by the team.
It was on 1st May 2009 the RCA delegation arrived in Somaliland in a humanitarian mission to treat blindness and similar eye diseases in the African country.
Al Thae said that the humanitarian operations of RCA is followed up by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of RCA HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has given directives to provide the best medical services to the people suffering from blindness and other eye diseases in Somaliland. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
