London, UK, May 9, 2009
– International community members, particularly those who want to see
Somaliland’s democracy flourish, expressed relief about the five-point
agreement between President Dahir Rayale Kahin and the two opposition
parties. They are now pushing for the implementation of the agreement
without further delay, so that full attention would shift to setting up
the logistics and securing international monitors. There is a sense of
urgency and a new found determination among the international community,
particularly in Britain, that a free and fair election take place in
Somaliland according to the agreement between the parties, and that no
more time should be wasted in bickering.
