Why on earth would anyone of sound mind and body think that we should be in Somalia for any reason? Why would anyone continue to believe that we are responsible to police the world? Why, as the UNF students suggest, would be partner with Muslims who avow to kill all infidels (that is us students) if we do not submit to Islam? Why would we send one red cent to a country that will be yanking all little girls out of school, enslaving all women for the rest of their lives, denying them any escape, and cutting off the heads of anyone not submitting to Islam?
Why would we spend our taxpayer money to rebuild what cannot last. The fact that they are a country but have only 2,600 kilometers of paved road is not a dead tipoff to you of the hopelessness of the situation. And why would we be part of any military organization in Somalia where we would end up being the only fighters (necessarily so) and would end up spending all the money for the venture.
The United Nations is recommending a force of 22,500 for this operation. I fully recommend that the University of North Florida Students and Nancy Soderberg go to Germany, France, Italy, Venezuela, China, Russia, Iran and all the other countries of the world that do not support the U.S. in any other like ventures and make their proposal to them. WE KNOW HOW FAR YOU WILL GET WITH THAT PROPOSAL TO THEM! For goodness sakes, why aren’t the Muslim countries with all the oil money taking the lead here? It is simple, they know it is hopeless.
First maybe the UNF students should just travel to Nebraska and other Midwest states in the United States and see the upheaval our government’s importing of Somaliland Refugees has created in factories and small towns around the region. This is not our world, it never will be and we need to get real here in the real world.
As for the Pirates, arm all commercial ships, train the crews and just kill them as they approach the ships no questions asked. A couple of well placed 50 caliber machine guns will take care of these criminals and there will be no need for trials and expensive imprisonments. If you are a Pirate and perpetrate a crime you simply die. Crimes at sea should not be tolerated in any way!
And to the Florida Times-Union Editors, when you print the sort of stuff given you by the UNF students, it appears that you endorse such lunacy and I am certain you do not. In my opinion you should have at the very least provided a disclaimer distancing yourself from this opinion piece
