Hargeysa, Somaliland,
May 9, 2009 (SL Times) – A 36-member Somaliland delegation comprised of
ministers, city council representatives and big businessmen flew to
Djibouti this week to take part in an international conference organized
by the World Bank.
The delegation was led by Somaliland's Minister of Planning, Mr. Ali
Ibrahim Muhammad (Ali-Sanyare).
In a press briefing at Hargeysa airport just before they left for
Djibouti, Ali Ibrahim Muhammad said, "the reason we are attending the
conference is so that we would introduce our companies and highlight the
links between them and the public sector."
When asked why the conference was taking place in Djibouti, the planning
minister answered," the reason it is happening in Djibouti is because
the organizations involved have said so. The conference is important for
us and our Djiboutian brothers, and while we are there we will promote
our companies and the connections between them and government
departments."
This is the largest delegation that leaves Somaliland for a conference
abroad, and it includes the minister of commerce, the minister of
fisheries, the minister of resettlement and the minister of minerals and
water.
The conference will go on for two days.
