Borama, Somaliland, May 30,
2009 (SL Times) – A meeting between parents and education officials took
place in Borama on May 16. The purpose of the meeting was to bring
awareness about the dangers of youngsters joining troublemakers who
create disturbances in the city. An additional objective was also to
discuss the issue of youths risking their life to illegally travel to
foreign countries.
The event took place at Sheikh Abdirahman elementary/intermediate
school. As reported by Haatuf correspondent in Borama, Muhammad Omar
Sheikh, the occasion coincided with a celebration for the graduating 8th
grade class and a welcoming party for the 7th grade class.
Representatives from the graduating class spoke and thanked their
teachers and the ministry of education. After that the Principal of
Sheikh Abdirahman elementary/intermediate school, Mr Dahir Ways, spoke,
and during his speech, he revealed that 1200 students attend the
school's 1-8 grades, and that the school has 38 teachers.
