London, UK, June 6, 2009 (SL
Times) Somaliland’s minister of coordination of national institutions,
Mr. Abdi Hassan Buni passed away this week in a London hospital. Mr.
Abdi Hassan Buni was a veteran politician and held a number of posts in
his long political career. He was a deputy prime minister in the first
post-independence government that was formed after the union between
Somaliland and Somalia, a member of parliament, and held various
ministerial positions during the civilian era. After Siyad Barre’s coup,
he left politics and became a businessman. However, he returned to
politics when Somaliland restored its independence and took a big part

During the Borama conference, he initially declared his candidacy for
the position of vice-president but later withdrew his candidacy. After
winning the 2003 election, President Dahir Rayale Kahin appointed Mr.
Abdi Hassan Buni as minister of coordination of national institutions.
The Somaliland Times sends its deep condolences to the family of the
deceased minister and to all Somalilanders.
