Hargeysa, Somaliland, June 20,
2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland president Dahir Rayale Kahin flew to Kuwait
this week. This is the first time that a Somaliland president visits
Kuwait.
It is not clear whether it was an official or unofficial visit,
particularly given the fact that the president was invited by a member
of Kuwait’s al-Sabah royal family and the interpenetration between
personal affairs and government business when it comes to members of the
ruling family.
The president’s visit to Kuwait as well as his previous visit to the
United Arab Emirates, are good baby steps toward establishing relations
between Somaliland and countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
