Hargeysa, Somaliland, June 20, 2009 (SL Times) – Singer Maryam Mursal Ise laid the foundation for a school in Dami neighborhood of Hargeysa. Maryam Mursal said this was a realization of a dream she had since her 2002 visit to Hargeysa. Assistant Minister of Health, Mr. Mahdi Osman Buri spoke of the importance of the school and how it will significantly contribute to the education of the children of Dami. He also urged Somalilanders from the diaspora, especially those who are originally from Dami, to play their part in this project.
Maryam Mursal was impressed with the warm welcome she received during her visit to Somaliland. She expressed her admiration for Somaliland’s peace and underlined the fact that Somaliland’s progress has come through the efforts of its own people. She also urged all Somalis to support the peace in Somaliland.
Upon arriving in Hargeysa, she said the purpose of her visit is twofold: to bring together Somali artists and to build a school. The school was named after the poet Hadrawi.
