Erigabo, Somaliland, July 11, 2009 (SL Times) – A conference to celebrate the inauguration of the University of Erigabo was held on the campus of that university. The conference was attended by students, parents, intellectuals, religious leaders and businessmen.
Muhammad Awad Jama, a student at the university gave a speech in which he said, “We thank you for responding to our invitation. It is a Somali custom that upon a child’s 40th day since his birth, we do for him what is called “Gardaadin”; likewise we have invited you to do the same for our new university, and we would like to share with you the good news that we have found in the university of Erigabo a university of good quality that will spare us from going far away to get an education.”
As reported by Mohamud Said Duale, other students whose faces were radiating with happiness addressed the conference.
Speeches were also given by Ahmed Mire Jama (Qaloocow) the Commander of the 3rd section, and the Coordinator of the Ministry of the Family, Fadumo Haji Hassan. Finally the Governor of Sanag Region, Mr. Ali Abdi Hurre spoke to the conference. He encouraged the people of Sanag Region to increase their effort so that they would catch up with other regions.
The conference was also addressed by Abdillahi Jama Ali (Abdillahi Qurus), the person behind establishing the university who handed the university’s program of study and emphasized that if the community works together, they will reach their goals.
