Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 11,
2009 (SL Times) – A two days conference on the inauguration of the youth
jail of mijo caseeye took place in Mansoor hotel. Among the salient
topics of the conference were how to take care of the youth while they
are in jail and what laws should apply to them.
The conference was organized by the Office for Development and
Humanitarian Affairs (ODHA), an organization whose chairman is Fadumo
Said.
In order to get a better grasp of the issues involved, the participants
were divided into six groups with each one doing a presentation on how
they propose to deal with jailed youths. The various groups came up with
different suggestions on how to deal with delinquent youth or youth who
commit crimes. Among the suggestions were: clear guidelines, a national
policy, police training on youth issues, inculcation of moral and
religious values, establishment of youth training centers and allocation
of budgets for helping youths.
The conference ended with speeches by Fadumo Said, the chairman of ODHA,
Abdiqadir Indho Indho (parliament member), Sheikh Abdirahman Sheikh
Farah, elder Muhammad Hirsi Farah and other distinguished guests.
