Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 11, 2009 (SL Times) – Interpeace, the organization that possesses the information of the registered voters and that is also in charge of the election server had a meeting with Somaliland’s three political parties on July 7th. The most important point of the meeting was for interperace to explain to the political parties the way it is going to sift through the voter list for Somaliland’s presidential election. Interpeace convinced the political parties to wait until it has finished its work.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, KULMIYE’s Chairman, Ahmed Sillanyo said, “The meeting had to do with Interpeace which is responsible for the server and the company that works with it, and they shared with us some information about the server, how it works, its history, and how it is doing its job. They promised that the server will do its job and would not be an obstacle for the election, and that the voter list will come out on July 27th as expected. They said voter registration is a tough job, needs a lot of skills, much time and effort were invested in it, and that there is no need to worry about it. In a similar spirit the three parties congratulated them and promised to work with them.”
The two other parties (UDUB & UCID) described the meeting as a technical meeting in which the political parties and the election were updated by Interpeace. But when pressed for more details, both UDUB and UCID declined to provide additional information about the meeting.
The meeting took place at Mansoor hotel.
