Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 11, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, Abdillahi Muhammad Duale and Somaliland Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Said Mohammed Nur, went to parliament to answer questions regarding Somaliland foreign policy. The two highest foreign policy officials were responding to a request from parliament’s foreign affairs subcommittee to come to parliament.
The foreign minister was asked about travel abroad by foreign affairs officials, and the foreign minister said that from now on the government intends to involve members of parliament in travel to foreign countries.
Asked about the airport incident where KULMIYE officials were refused access to the airport, the foreign minister said the incident had to do with heightened security at the airport.
Responding to a question about the recent US congressional hearing, the foreign minister said it will not have an impact on Somaliland and that government officials will soon go on an official visit to Washington.
Parliament member Abdirahman Muhammad Jama thanked the two ministers for appearing before parliament.
