Borama, Somaliland, July 11,
2009 (SL Times) – A celebration of the end of Amoud University’s exams
took place at Borama’s Rays hotel.
The occasion was attended by the graduating students, parents,
intellectuals as well as members of Amoud University’s administration.
The Dean of Amoud University’s Medical School, Dr Said Ahmed Walhad,
gave a speech in which he described the stages that the medical school
went through, from its establishment in 2001-2002 until the present,
from its humble beginnings until today where it has graduated the third
group of doctors. He also thanked Kings College for its support.
The audience was also addressed by the Vice Chair of Amoud University,
Ahmed Abdillahi Boqore, Dr. Abdi Daud (Health Coordinator for Awdal
region), Dr. Ismail Muhumed Aye (Director of Borama General Hospital),
and Former Mayor, Ibrahim Magan.
Former Mayor, Ibrahim Magan Nur highlighted the indispensable role
played by Dr Said Ahmed Walhad and Dr Ibrahim Said Qaws in making the
medical school a reality. He also praised Professor Dahir Amiye who was,
at the time, Somaliland’s minister of education, for granting the
permission to establish Amoud University.
A member of the graduating class also gave a speech in the name of his
classmates. The total number of graduates this year is 12. The
graduation ceremony is scheduled for July 27.
