Somaliland, July 25, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland’s Upper House approved
the presidential and city council election law.
The session was chaired by the Chairman of Somaliland Upper House
Chairman, Mr Suleiman Mahmud Adan. Forty four members of the Upper House
voted for the law and the change that says the presidential election
should be conducted based on the voter registration that took place. The
stipulation that only registered voters could vote was added because
donors had made it a condition for releasing election funds. The list of
registered voters is in the hands of Interpeace.
There are reports that Interpeace would not be able to make the voter
list available by the 27th of this month and has requested additional
four weeks for making the list ready.
