Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 25, 2009 (SL Times) – A 7-member committee that was formed to be in charge of the construction of a school in Dami neighborhood of Hargeysa held its first meeting this week. The residents of Dami are predominantly from the minority communities of Somaliland. The famous Somali singer, Maryam Mursal Ise paid the money for starting the school, but the money is not enough. Hargeysa municipality donated the land.
A snag had lately developed because of the name of the school. Hadrawi had initially suggested that the school should be named after one of the historically important personalities produced by the minority community such as Hussein Aw-Faarax, Cali Hussein, Hassan Diiriye and Cabdilaahi Abdi Shube, but he later accepted that the school be named after him, when he realized that his suggestion was misinterpreted by some people.
