Somaliland, August 1, 2009 (SL Times) – Amoud University celebrated the
graduation of the 8th batch of students. The graduation ceremony took
place in Amoud University campus. 147 students graduated from various
colleges, including those of agriculture, law, management and medicine.
The ceremony was attended by the minister of state for education, the
vice minister of education, the governor of Awdal, Amoud University
administrators, students, parents, and representatives of FC Denmark,
ADT, and the European Union.
Speaking on the occasion, Amoud University President, Mr Suleiman Ahmed
Guleed stressed the progress that the university has made. He pointed
out that the university started with 600 students in 1998 but now has
1600 students and 118 professors. He also said the university
contributes to the economy and pays $45,000 in salaries every month, and
university staff rent 20 houses.
Mr Suleiman Ahmed Guleed said Amoud University is a pioneer in
developing education in Somaliland, has internet, and plans to add the
faculties of engineering, dentistry and computer science.
He also thanked FC-Denmark, ADT, Progresso and the European Union for
supporting the university.
