JEDDAH, August 15, 2009 – Two Somali women and two children under the
age of three died and five other members of the same family were injured
when a fire broke out early Monday at their home in Al-Rawabi district
along the old Jeddah-Makkah road, the Civil Defense announced.
Civil Defense spokesman in Makkah province Capt. Abdul Rahman Al-Ghamdi
said the operations room was informed early Monday of a fire at one of
the old houses in Rawabi district and immediately dispatched fire
brigades and rescue teams. He added that some members of the family who
were trapped by the fire were rescued and sent to King Abdul Aziz
Hospital for treatment.
The spokesman said investigations were being held to know the cause of
the fire and to evaluate material damage.
