Hargeysa,
Somaliland, August 15, 2009 (SL Times) – The shortest man in Somaliland,
Mr. Shuayb Hassan left Somaliland on his way to Norway.
Haatuf Newspaper interviewed Mr. Shuayb Hassan before he left Hargeysa.
During the interview, Mr. Shuayb Hassan revealed that the biggest
problem for him comes from children and people who don’t know him.
Children are usually surprised when they see him and sometimes they
tease him. Strangers also initially express surprise but once they talk
to him and get to know him things work out, he explained.
Shuayb who is 33 years old, was born in Jiidali, a rural area outside
Erigavo, Sanag Region. He said he does not think his short height was
due to hereditary reasons, because his brothers, sisters, and parents
were of regular height; and although he had one short sister who died,
she was not as short as him.
Asked if there was something he wants to say to Somalilanders before he
leaves for Norway, Mr. Shuayb Hassan advised the citizens of Somaliland
to continue the country’s progress and not to take the country backward
or blindly follow party leaders. He also appealed to Somaliland’s
leaders to be reasonable and accommodate each other for the sake of the
country.
