Minnesota,
MN, August 29, 2009 (SL Times) – Early this week, Professor Abdi Samatar
expressed anger to Minnesota Public Radio over being repeatedly
questioned at various airports in the US. According to Minnesota Public
Radio, Abdi Samatar said he was being targeted because:
1- Twenty Somali-Americans went to Somalia and joined an extremist
organization.
2- He is a Muslim, a Somali and travels frequently.
3- He is on some watch list.
4- Other reasons.
To build up his credibility, he mentioned that “he has counseled the
U.S. State Department on Somali affairs”, as if that by itself should
put him beyond suspicion. But what he did not mention was that whatever
little solicited or unsolicited counseling he may have given the US
State Department pales in magnitude when compared with the time and
energy he spent on promoting the Islamic Courts, a terrorist
organization that was removed from power by Ethiopian troops with US
blessings. Minnesota Public Radio was apparently unaware of this, so
they did not call him on it, but this is common knowledge among Somalis.
