Hargeysa,
Somaliland, September 19, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland’s Upper House met
with the leaders of the country’s three political parties as part of the
Upper House’s efforts to broker an agreement between the political
parties. Kulmiye and UCID parties were represented by their Chairmen,
Ahmed Sillanyo and Faysal Ali Warabe respectively, while the ruling UDUB
party was represented by Jama.
No official announcements were made about what transpired during the
meeting. The talks have acquired urgency due to several reasons, among
them the fact that the presidential cannot be held at its scheduled date
of Sept.27, the disturbing events of the last four weeks, and the
approaching end of the President’s term in office.
