Mr. Rayale Resign Gracefully And Save The Nation From Abyss

By Suleiman Egeh

Word of the day: “The time to plant the seeds for a new 21st century leadership model for Somaliland, in the post colonial failed/collapsed state era is now”

It so unfortunate to see the continuation of the political impasse in Somaliland. The current problems stem from the postponement of the presidential elections three times. One of the main reasons a once popular president became so unpopular is the inherent suspicion of dictators in this country. The people of this country have sacrificed so much to come to where they are today. They gallantly fought and decisively defeated the fourth largest army in Africa. Mr. Rayale did a lot of good things but time for him to quit is now.

His quitting does not mean he will disappear into the wilderness. Mr. president there are no good options before you today. But one thing is very clear your graceful quitting will cool heads in the country. Your quitting will save us from these endless and unnecessary distractions. Your quitting will calm the nerves down. Therefore, for the sake of the nation, step down and let us see what those who want your job will do. Mr. President great leaders lead but bad leaders manipulate.

Great leaders read the writing on the wall while bad leaders never understand the writing on the wall. The writing on the wall today is almost all Somalilanders overwhelmingly want you to quit and become a very well-respected statesman who will be an expert on post failed states/collapsed states in Africa. If you leave with honor and integrity today, your expertise will be sought after all around the world. Experts on international relations, history, government and conflict will be asking you for years, how come you presided over the most improbable and successful democratic and peaceful states in Africa, without outside help. That will only happen if you heed the advice of all Somalilanders, Somaliland friends and well-wishers. The other side of the coin is very ugly and gloomy. Had you keep dragging the nation down, you will be the master of, ignominy and the merchant of destruction, a hapless dictator and all the good things you have done over the years will go down the drain.

Then you will join Africa’s hall of infamy, disgrace and failure. Your name will be added to the long and familiar list which includes the likes of, Mobutu, Charles Taylor, Siyad Barre, Haile Selassie, Omar Al-Bashir, Gadaffi and many others. Mr. Rayale do the right thing and gracefully quit.
