Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 3, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland parliament suspended for an undefined period of time the drive to impeach President Dahir Rayale Kahin and the Vice President Ahmed Yusuf Yasin.
Parliament took this decision in response to the 6-point agreement that was signed between Somaliland’s political parties. Parliament also took a two-month break.
The parliament’s decision contributes greatly to the atmosphere of reconciliation and clears the way for the political parties to focus their energies on speeding up arrangements for the much-delayed election. Fifty two parliamentarians were present in the session, forty three voted for suspending the impeachment, one voted against it, and 10 did not vote.
