Las Anod, Somaliland, October 10, 2009 (SL Times) –
Las Anod police burned dozens of daggers and Somali budhs (hard sticks
with round heads that are used in fighting).
According to Afnugaal.com, the weapons were collected from people and is
part of the city government’s efforts to make the city safe. The reason
those items were burned in public was to show everyone that the weapons
were not collected for some ulterior motive.
Present during this event was the commander of Police of Sool region, Mr
Muhammad Suleiman Gooni and the three security committees of Las Anod.
The bonfire took place close to Hotel Royal in the southern part of the
city. This is the third time that weapons were destroyed in public in
Las Anod.
