Somaliland President Forwards The Names Of Commission Nominees, Parliament Starts Confirmation Process

Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 24, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin has finally forwarded the list of the seven members of the electoral commission.
The president had previously rejected three members of the electoral commission that were nominated by the Upper House and the opposition parties which was a clear abuse of presidential power, since it is parliament’s job and not the president’s job, to either confirm or reject candidates to the electoral commission. Nevertheless the Upper House and the opposition parties decided to change the nominees that the president rejected in order to cut short the president’s delay tactics.
For its part, parliament immediately set to work and the Internal Affairs Subcommittee headed by Mr Said Ilmi Roble began the process of confirmation or rejection by examining the CV’s of the nominees, collecting relevant information about them and interviewing them. The full parliament is supposed to meet on Oct.24 to consider the issue.
Udub’s nominees:
1.Muhammad Ahmed Hirsi Geele.
2 Eng. Ise Yusuf Muhammad
3 Farah Abib Adan.
Upper House nominees:
1. Rabi Sharif Cabdi Muhammad
2. Abdirahman Muhammad Ismail
Kulmiye’s nominee:
1. Ali-Khadar Hasan Osman
UCID’s nominee:
1. Abdifatah Ibrahim Hassan
