Senior U.S. Official For Refugees Concludes Africa Visit

Nairobi, October 31, 2009 – United States Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Eric P. Schwartz concluded a successful visit to the DRC and Kenya with an October 22 press conference in Nairobi. Mr. Schwartz, who had visited Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps during his visit to Kenya, highlighted the United States’ ongoing efforts to assist the refugees in the camps, most of whom are from Somalia. He reviewed his talks with Kenyan officials about the refugee situation and also emphasized the United States government’s ongoing efforts to assist Somalia in achieving peace and stability, which would ultimately allow the Somali refugees to return to their home country.
