The
Upgrading Of Ethiopian Representation In Somaliland Is A Step In The
Right Direction |
In the larger scheme of things, the upgrading of Ethiopia’s
representation in Somaliland from a trade office to a consulate
may seem like a small and inconsequential event, but for
Somaliland-Ethiopian relations, it is a very important step from
which both Ethiopia and Somaliland stand to benefit. How so?
First, this step strengthens Ethiopia’s position in Somaliland
by taking ammunition away from critics who say Ethiopia does not
care about Somaliland and is only using it for its own purposes.
Two, this step formalizes the close relations between Somaliland
and Ethiopia and therefore pre-empts any other state, in the
region, or beyond, from curtailing or displacing Ethiopia’s
interests in Somaliland. Three, it sends a signal that
Ethiopia’s foreign policy regarding Somalis are calibrated
according to the interests of Ethiopia and not according to the
interests of other powers.

What Soap Opera Or Musalsal
Does To Our Society! |
|
By Adnan
A. Hassan
“A soap opera or Musalsal, is an ongoing, episodic work of
dramatic fiction presented in serial format on television or
radio”. (Wikipedia)
Soap operas or Musalsal’s origin dates back to Britain. “It
began on radio and consequently was associated with the BBC.
The BBC continues to broadcast the world’s longest-running
radio soap, The Archers, on BBC Radio 4, which has been
running nationally since 1951”. (Wikipedia)
Musalsal was introduced to Somaliland just only several
years later when the Somaliland society slightly recovered
from the 1994-5 civil war. Since there was no local TV
stations, the haves turned to buy satellite dishes that
provided more than 20 foreign Arab channels with the
exception of few other English speaking TV channels.

We The People Of Idiots! |
|
 |
By
Ibrahim Mead
Taking the independent Somaliland to the unknown Somalia was
an accident in the history of Somaliland! A bad one! We paid
that with blood and treasure!
Passing the hard-won second Republic of Somaliland to the
remnants of the evil regime of Siyad Barre, who are
themselves evil, is another accident in the history of
Somaliland! A double jeopardy!
To make an ex-spy who allegedly supervised the murder of
over 2500 Somalilanders in the city of Berbera where he was
the chief NSS agent, a president for the victims of that
clan based mass murder, earned Somalilanders a place in the
world of idiocy! That made the people of Somaliland idiots!
We are people of idiots, therefore!
“Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people
until they change what is in themselves” [AlRaad. Ch.13.
V11] Somaliland values, the sense of purpose and the reason
she sacrificed men and material for her liberation and
recall, has been affected immensely by the ex-spy agent made
president; by the people of idiots: thus Somalilanders
changed what is in themselves!

Wayward Camels
Cause Tension On Israel-Egypt Border |
|
Camels
crossing the border from Egypt into Israel are a headache
for the Israeli authorities, who have to strike a balance
between keeping out diseases and maintaining cordial
relations with their neighbor
By Rachelle Kliger
Every year, hundreds of camels cross the border from Egypt
into Israel. Some wander into Israel unwittingly, in search
of greener pastures to graze, while others are deliberately
sent from Egypt to smuggle in drugs or other illicit
materials.
Israeli authorities are concerned that the camels wondering
into Israel from other countries could be carrying deadly
diseases, like Rift Valley fever.

By CHARLES TANNOCK
After almost two decades as a failed state torn by civil
war, perhaps the world should begin to admit that Somalia –
as it is currently constructed – is beyond repair.
Some of the country, however, can meet at least a basic
standard of governance.
The northernmost region, Somaliland, situated strategically
at the opening to the Red Sea and home to roughly 3.5
million of Somalia’s 10 million people, is more or less
autonomous and stable.
