Djiboutian Opposition Leader Warmly Welcomed In Ottawa

Ottawa, Canada, November 7, 2009 (SL Times) – Mr Dahir Ahmed Farah, the Chairman of the Djiboutian opposition party MRD, arrived in Ottawa, Canada, and was warmly welcomed this week. He said he came to Ottawa in response to a request from the Djiboutian community in Ottawa.
During his visit to Ottawa, Dahir Ahmed Farah met with the Djiboutian and Somali diaspora as well as officials in the Canadian government. He spoke at a Quebec University and in Ottawa’s city hall.
Dahir Ahmed Farah had visited Canada in 2006, so this was his second visit. He said he had a message for the Canadian government and a message for Djiboutians. His message for the Canadian government was to stand with the people of Djibouti in their efforts to bring about real democratic change. His message for the Djiboutian people is that they should strengthen their efforts to democratically change Djibouti’s leadership.
Mr. Dahir Ahmed Farah warned the people of Djibouti that the current President Ismail Omar Guelleh has indicated that he wants to run for a third term which is another sign that he sees himself as a president-for-life; therefore, Djiboutians should oppose this and tell Ismail Omar Guelleh that Djibouti is not his private house which he can occupy for as long as he lives.
