Mogadishu, Somalia, November 7, 2009 (SL Times) – A member of the Islamist militia Hizb al-Islam shot a medical doctor for smoking a cigarette. The name of the doctor is Osman Ma’alin Bidaaray and the incident took place in Afgoi, 30 km south of Mogadishu.
The militiaman saw the doctor smoking in public and told him to stop smoking. The doctor did not comply with the order and as a result he was shot four times by the militia man.
Radical Islamists and terrorists who control most of south-central Somalia often punish or kill people based on warped interpretations of Islam that are alien to the compassionate and merciful nature of the Islamic religion.
