Edmonton, December 5, 2009 – An autopsy has been set
for Tuesday morning to determine the identity and cause of death of the
city's latest homicide victim, who was found dead at the wheel of a car
yesterday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Edmonton Somali community is mourning after learning the
victim was one of their own.
“I don't know what is happening here the whole community is very shaken
up. It's very scary,” said Mohamed Abdi, communications co-ordinator of
the Somali Canadian Cultural Society of Edmonton.
Officers responded to the area of 105 Street and 106 Avenue after
reports that shots had been fired around 1:15 p.m.
When they arrived, they found the body of a man slumped in the driver's
seat of a tan sedan in an alley behind a commercial strip.
The building that houses the A & S Laundromat, Maca Halal Meats and the
African Safari Restaurant was taped off as well as a neighboring house
and part of the back alley.
No suspects have been identified and police are urging anyone with
information to come forward.
This was the city's 25th homicide of the year and the second Somali to
be killed this month.
Earlier this month, 21-year-old Abdulaziz Osman Isse was shot to death.
His body was discovered behind a dumpster at a west-end synagogue.
