Osman Sheikh Abdi Appointed Minister Of Minerals And Water

Hargeysa, Somaliland, December 19, 2009 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin appointed Osman Sheikh Abdi Sheikh Muhammad as the minister of minerals and water. The new minister replaces the former Minister of Minerals and Water, Qaasim Sheikh Yusuf who passed away.
Speaking to the press at the ministry, the new minister praised the deceased minister for the good job he had done while he was in charge. Osman Sheikh Abdi said he wants to join the category of the most competent ministers, like the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Waran Adde. He also noted that no country can make progress based on foreign aid and that it is the duty of every Somalilander to work for the progress of his country.
The Director General of the Ministry of Minerals and Water, Eng. Ibrahim Sultan, spoke about the various departments within the ministry and the accomplishments, as well as the problems, facing the ministry. He said UNICEF is the organization that is mostly involved in working with the ministry. He also revealed that there are 140 water wells that work properly in Somaliland.
The Minister of State for Minerals and Water, Muse Madoobe, officially transferred custody of the ministry to the new minister.
