Southern Exodus From Puntland

Garowe, Somalia, December 26, 2009 (SL Times) – Somalis from southern Somalia, continue to leave Puntland and head back to their home towns and villages. Most of these people are from the Bay and Bakool region, and they are leaving Puntland because they feel their lives are in danger after several of them were killed in Puntland.
Many southerners have also reached the conclusion that they are not protected by the Puntland administration after some Puntland officials blamed them for the deteriorating security situation in Puntland.
The southern exodus has not only negatively affected the image of Puntland, it has also resulted in a noticeable reduction in business activity, since many of the southern owned businesses have closed.
