Abdillahi Yusuf Says Al-Shabaab Takeover Of Mogadishu Inevitable, Urges Puntland And Somaliland To Get Ready For Fighting Al-Shabaab

London, UK, December 26, 2009 (SL Times) – Abdillahi Yusuf, the deposed former head of Somalia’s “government” said it is inevitable that al-Shabaab will complete its control of Mogadishu. He said this in an interview with the Voice of America’s Somali Service on Wednesday (Dec.23, 2009). Abdillahi Yusuf who now lives in exile in Yemen said he had told the international community that their tactic of splitting the Islamists and co-opting some of them would not work and that instead they should all be fought and defeated.
Abdillahi Yusuf predicted that once the radical al-Shabaab takes over all of Mogadishu, then they will attack Puntland and Somaliland. He advised both Puntland and Somaliland to arm themselves and get ready for the coming conflict with al-Shabaab.
Al-Shabaab already controls most of southern Somalia, and most of Mogadishu, and are thought to play a role in the almost daily bombings and assassinations in Puntland.
Abdillahi Yusuf gave the interview in London where he is for medical check up.
