Puntland’s Worsening Security Situation

Bosaso, Somalia, January 02, 2010 (SL Times) – The situation in Puntland has been in a downward spiral for some time. Even the highest officials of Puntland are not immune to the increasing violence.
For example, hand grenades were lobbed at Puntland’s presidential office in Bosaso, the vice president was attacked in his car, and the house of the speaker of parliament was bombed. Some of the reasons for the unraveling security situation in Puntland are internal, such as power struggle among Puntland’s leaders and clan disputes, but there are external reason too, such as infiltration by the extremist al-Shabaab.
