Sheikh Sharif’s Police Shoot One Of His Parliamentarians

Mogadishu, Somalia, January 02, 2010 (SL Times) – One of Sheikh Sharif’s policemen shot and wounded one of Sheikh Sharif’s parliamentarians. The parliamentarian’s name is Abdirizaq Muhammad Yusuf (Xiirane).
The incident took place close to the regional headquarters in Mogadishu. It is not clear what triggered the shooting but according to the police, the person driving the car refused to stop when he approached the police check point.
Deputy Police Commander for Banadir region, Ali Abdi blamed the parliamentarian and said the police are not at fault because they were operating under security alert and the parliamentarian refused to take orders.
Sheikh Sharif controls only about 3 km of Mogadishu and this only with the help of African troops (AMISOM). The incident took place within the 3 km held by Sheikh Sharif and the African troops. Furthermore, Sheikh Sharif’s so-called police are composed of ill-disciplined clan militias who often have fire fights and shootings among themselves.
