Abdillahi Majoor Passes Away

Toronto, Canada, January 9, 2010 (SL Times) – Abdillahi Majoor, a prominent figure in Somalia’s civilian politics passed away in Toronto, Canada.
Abdillahi Majoor had many friends from Somaliland and was well-liked and respected in Somaliland as well as Somalia. He was a fair-minded man who acknowledged that Somalilanders got a raw deal in their union with Somalia. Especially memorable were his comments in a BBC Somali Service Program that was aired when President Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal passed away. Asked what he remembered about Egal in that program, Abdillahi Majoor pointed to Egal’s loss of his premiership as a result of the union with the south, and how fairness would have dictated that he become a prime minister but when Egal was denied that position, he handled the adversity with grace which tells you what kind of a man he was.
The Somaliland Times sends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and to all Somalis.
