Sheikh Sharif’s Military Commander Escapes Bomb

Mogadishu, Somalia, January 9, 2010 (SL Times) – The Commander of Sheikh Sharif’s military, Mohamed Gele Kahiye, escaped a bomb attack in the Hodan neighborhood of Mogadishu. According to the Voice of America’s Somali Service (Jan.7, 2010) two of his bodyguards were killed and seven were injured in the roadside bomb attack.
Mohamed Gele Kahiye recently took over as military commander of Sheikh Sharif’s militias after the previous commander failed to change the military status quo in which their militias are confined to a couple of kilometers in Mogadishu where they are guarded by African troops (AMISOM), while most of the city is in the hands of their former comrades and current enemies known as al-Shabaab.
