Dr. Ahmed Esa’s Successful Visit To South Africa – Press Release

Pretoria, SA, January 16, 2010 – Dr. Ahmed Hussein Esa, Director of the Institute for Practical Research and Training (IPRT) and co-founder of Abaarso Tech, the new Science and Technology Academy that recently opened in Somaliland, spent the last three weeks in South Africa.

During his visit, Dr. Esa advanced Somaliland-South Africa relations at the media, community, educational and political levels.

He was interviewed by South Africa’s E-News TV Channel and the Voice of the Cape radio.

Dr. Esa held meetings with the Somali community organizations in South Africa, including the Somaliland Community in South Africa (COSSA), the Somali Community Board of South Africa (SCOBA) and other groups.

On Friday 8 January, Dr. Esa’s speech to members of the Somali community at the AMAL shopping mall Conference Hall was very warmly received.

In addition, Dr. Esa and Prof. Iqbal Jhazbhay met with South African President Jacob Zuma’s newly-appointed national security advisor, in order to explore ways to advance stability and security in the Horn of Africa and to strengthen the African agenda within multilateral institutions.

Dr. Esa also made contacts with South African educational institutions to consolidate future linkages with Somaliland.

In this respect, in early December, Dr. Edna Adan Ismail was awarded the prestigious University of Pretoria’s Chancellor’s Medal, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Human Rights.

Dr. Edna met with staff of the University of Pretoria’s Nursing Science Department to explore joint academic cooperation.
