President Dahir Rayale Kahin Holds Press Conference

Hargeysa, Somaliland, January 23, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin held a press conference on Tuesday. Speaking about the election, he said the issue is settled and there will not be an extension of his term in office. He added that the only remaining question is for the Server to be fixed, and for the election commission to set a date for the election, and that whoever is raising the issue has ulterior motives. Addressing the dispute between the leadership of the Upper House, he said his government is not involved in the dispute and urged the leadership of the Upper House to resolve their differences and unite their legislative body.
The president stressed that the livestock inspection facility was built and functioning and his government will not tolerate any obstacles to be put on its way and will not allow another inspection facility to be built.
The president also raised doubts about the commitment of Mr. Ahmed Sillanyo (the Chairman of the opposition party Kulmiye) to Somaliland’s independence.
Regarding the security situation, President Dahir Rayale Kahin emphasized that Somaliland is located in a volatile region and piracy and terrorism in neighboring countries has already affected Somaliland, whether it is the assassinations in Las Anod or the explosives that were discovered in Hargeysa. He exhorted Somalilanders to be vigilant about protecting their security.
The president declined to answer questions from reporters.
